Design Engineering, Inc. (DEI) is proud to announce that Mr. John Karlin, one of our talented structural engineers, was the featured speaker at the ACI-LA Chapter’s March 2023 Luncheon Seminar. Mr Karlin’s presentation focused on post-installed adhesive anchors and reinforcing bars, providing attendees with an overview of design specifications, epoxy testing, and failure modes.
During his presentation, Mr. Karlin discussed common design and construction challenges that can arise during such projects. These challenges include unknown existing reinforcement information, insufficient base material thickness, and base material quality. Common construction challenges include limited horizontal or vertical clearance and quality control.
By identifying and addressing these challenges in advance, their impact on a project can be minimized. Mr. Karlin’s presentation provided a brief overview of post-installed adhesive anchors and reinforcing bars, including design specifications, epoxy testing, and failure modes. He also shared proposed solutions based on past projects involving the installation of approximately 140,000 post-installed adhesive anchors and reinforcing bars.
